Giancarlo Lombardi was born in Naples in December 1971. After graduating from classical high school with honours in 1988 (among the first students to receive it), he graduated with honours in 1994 in Telecommunications Engineering in Pisa and is a student at the 'S. Anna' School of Advanced Studies. In 1998 he was awarded a PhD in Information Engineering in Trieste. In 2000, he worked at Siemens in Germany. Since November 2000, he has been working at the European Patent Office, first in The Hague in the Netherlands until 2006, then until today in Munich, Germany, in the video compression sector.
He works in English, French and German and also speaks Spanish, Greek, Dutch and Portuguese, as well as Latin and Ancient Greek. He has a Greek wife and three children. His knowledge in the physical, mathematical and natural sciences does not distract him from the humanities with interests in literature (especially Greco-Roman and Italian) and history. He has been writing poetry for thirty years for pleasure and meditation.
