Giuseppe Spagnuolo was the last inhabitant of Roscigno Vecchia after the entire community moved away in fear of the unavoidable damage left by the earthquake. Spagnuolo, however, chose to stay in his house of stone and wood, warmed by a small fireplace and his love. Menotti Lerro dedicates a visionary poem, which attempts to delve into the meanders of the psyche, to one of the most symbolic and emblematic figures of the resilience of the inhabitants of Cilento, elevating Giuseppe Spagnuolo's values - which subtend a plurality of meanings, including opposing the alienation of solitude - to universal values.
