L'oscurità degli angeli - review on TOSCANA OGGI

SchoepflinSuGaravelliFullBianca Garavelli has an undeniably beautiful writing, fluid, fast, and accurate at the same time: her last book L'oscurità degli angeli. Racconti (Ladolfi Editore, pp. 102, euro 10)testifies to the full.

Literary critic of the newspaper "Avvenire", Garavelli is the author of several novels, including The Lost triplets of Dante, a thriller that had a vast fortune, focusing on the dell'Alighieri, which is deep knowledge, having among other edited a Commentary on the Divine Comedy.

In the Dark of the angels, the writer of Vigevano has nine stories, one long and the other short. With these stories she wants to investigate the reasons behind the secret of human life, which is never as it seems, but it is far more complex and mysterious.

Immersed in an atmosphere Pirandello-like, the characters reveal aspects of their personality completely unpredictable, forcing the reader to ponder the existence of a level of reality that is not immediately obvious, but refers to the supernatural or fantastic, and that, however, it is always disturbing. The first story, The friend of Ariadne, is the 'piece de resistance' of the book, and by the way it Maria Corti wrote that it is "a text remarkable for the drama of the theme: a negative childhood [...] that is reflected in the woman blocking her communication skills [...]. temperament lyric-author continues the Courts - is dominated in this prose clear and smooth, with strong virtues descriptive and fantastic universe with an original trend ".

Very impressive is the story entitled Trains, whose theme is the belief that in life there is always a second chance, that nothing is lost, if we look at the reality and ourselves without ever closing the doors to the future and hope. This atmosphere, which could be called magical, almost hallucinatory, hovers in the other stories.

And if the characters move on a background in which dominate the bright colors typical of genres yellow and surreal, but the Garavelli dilutes any possible excess descriptive images, thoughts and feelings of great intensity and emotional depth, that lead the reader an atmosphere of serenity and peace, albeit sometimes painful; atmosphere that is also constructed through a careful use of language, when it is described as' the pink, intense and velvety, like that of raspberries soft spring "of the rose garden in which, amid the chill of winter, a child perceives the comforting presence of her mother, who died recently.
